Can anyone actually hear or comprehend the words of Radiohead or U2?

It seems to me as if they just mumble their lyrics to the sound of the music they play, or synthesise some tunes that cover up what they sing. Either way, I can't understand them and their lyrics make little sense to me. It's just the background noise I find entertaining while listening to them. I'd like to know personal opinions on these guys and their music.
